A blog at last!

As a former technology journalist, I really should have had a blog before now! Somehow I kept putting it off thinking it would be really difficult to arrange. It wasn’t; it was dead simple. My friend and former colleague Kate has one for her adventures in Africa but that wasn’t what persuaded me. The clincher was that her friend Michael has one by accident. When I saw that, I knew it couldn’t be too hard!

The subject of blogs came up on my last day at The Aus. Sadly my bureau chiefs Michelle and Scott couldn’t be there because they were away from work for personal reasons. But my pod mate Elisabeth (who I have enormous respect for both professionally and personally) made a lovely speech. This meant a lot because while Elisabeth is a talker, she is not by choice a public speaker. After that, Karen, who I worked with on the IT section before I joined the general news desk, made a speech, which was also much appreciated. She contended that everyone would be following my adventures online. It took eight months but now you can!

So far, I have republished my group letters, which is a useful way to give a short-hand overview of my last eight months. I plan to write another to bring it up to date with my travels to Edinburgh and Austria. But then the plan is to update the blog more often and cut down on the big bulk emails.

Yay! It certainly is a good way to not only keep in touch, but document stuff for your own good. I have some of my emails home from my trip overseas but not all, and still get ‘em out to have a look at all the stuff that you may think’s mundane when you write about it, but takes on a whole new meaning a few years later.
    Good stuff!

Revisiting my very first blog post – featuring @kmac – in Feb 2005. I thought I was late to the game! http://t.co/ZGNg29H5
