Unusual vegetables

Look at this gorgeous Romanesco cauliflower that came in my vegetable box the other week. Half of it made a delicious Sophie Grigson curry recipe and the other half went in my own improvised vegetable risotto.

It tastes almost exactly like white cauliflower but slightly more piquant because of the greenish tinge. I particularly like the way the flowerets form a spiral pattern when looking at it from above.

More strange vegetables:

  • * Spaghetti squash, profiled on Food Blogga. I’ve never seen it before but I love the look of it!

Have you come across any unusual or strange looking vegetables lately? Let me know in the comments.

  1. I enjoy Romensco cauliflower roasted with olive oil and garlic and served with pasta. Of course, I just love how funky it is even unadorned. Thanks for the link! Spaghetti squash is too fun.

Cauliflower is great roasted – it gets really crisp and it has almost a nutty flavour. – Caitlin
