Lintong, Sumatra, Indonesia; December 2008
We made quite an impact when we visited the local market in Lintong, Sumatra. I wasn’t even with the camera crew but we had children following us and people screaming with laughter when we asked to take a picture. No one gave us any hassle or used the hard sell. Except for this lady who was determined not to let a sales opportunity pass. Nice onions, they were too.
I have written full posts – with lots of lovely pictures – on my trip to Indonesia last week. Please check out this post with monkeys, cute kids, coffee farmers, misty forests and lakes. Or this one, with me on a motorbike, markets, Sumatran-style houses and waterfalls.
This is part of Photo Friday, a weekly blogging event hosted by Debbie of Delicious Baby. Click through to her blog to view all posts. Or view my entry from last week.

Hey, in a down economy, you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do!
Great photo to capture the moment.
Looks and sounds like a very interesting place.
What a fun photo! I’m smiling and wishing I had a trip to Asia planned
You’re sure she didn’t think you were a vampire or something?
What a great picture! The onions lived true to what the woman said?!
Our exchange was wordless because I don’t speak Batak (the local language) or Bahasa Indonesia. Regrettably I didn’t actually buy the onions because I didn’t have any local currency on me and my friend only had the equivalent of $10 notes. Besides, I’m not sure what I would have done with them! – Caitlin
