Point Lobos, California; October 2009
Point Lobos State Natural Reserve lies just south of Carmel-by-the-sea and Monterey on California’s scenic Highway 1. It’s most famous for the wildlife – sea otters and sea lions like to hang out here – and the spectacular ocean and coastal views. But it has some cool rock formations too.
Doesn’t this look like a friendly rock monster? Perhaps a cartoon character from Adult Swim or Spongebob Squarepants started to melt and then turned to stone?
Whatever… I think it’s cool!

I does look like a cartoon, but what’s really amazing is how nature does things like that.
That’s a fun picture. It looks a little bit like it belongs on H R Puff N Stuff. We did that drive pre-kids and it was a lot of fun – I’d like to back there with the boys.

I’m always fascinated with rocks and how they change over time. Kind of like watching the clouds to find cool formations in them, too.

Point Lobos has long been one of my favorite places — we went tidepooling there often when I was a kid. I’m so glad you got to see it and I adore your rock monster.
I have been there. It is a great place to see stone formation. Nice picture, it looks like bird.
