San Francisco, USA; July 2009
On a foggy July day, we hiked from Cliff House to Baker Beach in San Francisco and back. Our route there was via Land’s End and the cliffs and our route back was through the Presidio.
Along the way we stopped and saw this cool stone Labyrinth at Land’s End. It was created in 2004 by Eduardo Aguilera and was meant to be a site for meditation – though if our group was representative, I’d say most people go to gawk and take pictures. To get there walk east from the Cliff House car park on the Coastal Trail and take the trail to Mile Rock Beach. Climb downstairs and when the staircase turns to the left, continue straight ahead.
If not for the fog, we would have had wonderful views of the Marin Headlands and Golden Gate Bridge. The fog was pretty cool in its own right though – check out this cool effect with the kites at Baker Beach.

If you’re a labyrinth nut (and there’s no indication that you are, it’s just one photo after all!), there are some cool ones on top of Nob Hill at Grace Cathedral—one inside, one outside.

Thanks. I do like a good laybrinth! This is more along the lines of a pretty pattern since it would be pretty hard to get lost in a maze made of pebbles. To me, a real labyrinth is a maze that you can follow. – Caitlin.
What a neat spot! Looks like a whale tail or something is coming out of the water in the second photo. Even if it’s just a rock, I choose to believe it’s something living. Makes me want to be sitting in that spot this minute. Thanks for sharing!

I think it is just a rock but it would be cool if it were a whale! – Caitlin.
Would love to visit this lovely spot. We have walked several different labyrinths in very different settings…would love to add this one to our list. Thanks for sharing it.

What a great place for a labyrinth! Especially if you had it all to yourself

Interesting. Do we know how long it took to create it? It’s amazing that it hasn’t been all messed up by someone.
Um, I too am curious about what that is in the water. It looks a little too much like metal to be a whale but, who knows. Do you know?
