Driving Highway 1 in California: Sunset over Monterey Bay

Monterey, California; September 2009

This time last year, my husband and I took a road trip with his parents south as San Francisco to places like Hearst Castle and Big Sur. We stayed the first night in Monterey, arriving just in time to see the sunset over the bay.

I imagine the water was probably just as jammed with boats in John Steinbeck’s era, though back then they would have been fishing vessels rather than pleasure craft.
